3D cell cultures, such as organoids and spheroids, have distinct advantages over 2D cultures for diverse cell and tissue types as they more closely mimic the natural environments of the cell.

How does this benefit my research?
By culturing cells in a 3D manner, the cell physiology is more analogous to that of cells within a living tissue. This means that the results of assays performed in 3D conditions are more representative of the results you would expect from a living system.

We recognize that scientific terminology can be vague or confusing and we want to let you know exactly what our technology does!

The nadia3D kit produced small spheres of hydrogels which contain cells. We call these cell-containing Scaffolds. They provide a structure to contain the cells and their products or a matrix through which they can propagate.

We differentiate scaffolds from spheres of aggregated or cultivated cells which are often termed Spheroids. Likewise, Organoids is term used to describe a collection of cells with recognizable organ characteristics.

Scaffold – small sphere of hydrogel that contains a cell(s)
Spheroid – spherical aggregation of cells (sometimes can mimic characteristics of tissue)
Organoid – a simple organ, produce in vitro, which demonstrates some recognizable organ characteristics.

Cells can be liberated from their 3D scaffolds for further analyses.

In what form is the hydrogel supplied in the nadia3D kit?
The hydrogel in the nadia3D kit is provided as a liquid which must be kept cold during processing.

How many samples can I run in parallel?
You can run from 1 to 8 samples in parallel.

How many cells can you run?
Up to 5000 cells/ul.

How do you recover cells from scaffolds?
The use of a combination of collagenase, DMEM and CaCl2 can help dissolve scaffolds while maintaining cell viability. See application note for more details. Note: the reagents for digesting collagen scaffolds are not provided in the nadia3D kit

How long can you store scaffolds after recovery?
The collagen scaffolds can remain stable for up to a week; however, we recommend immediately processing the scaffolds due to cell viability.

What is the size of scaffolds produced?
Median size is 80 um
